Care Instructions
14K Materials
This precious metal is a favorite for its ability to stand up to everyday life. It is more scratch resistant than its 18K counterpart. Gold is tarnish resistant but it can get dirty which reduces its luster. We recommend using a mild detergent solution and a soft brush. After gently cleaning, rinse with warm water and pat dry.
Diamonds and Precious Gems
Though highly valued for their beauty, any gem can suffer chips and fractures if care is not taken. We recommend cleaning with mild detergent and a soft brush. Avoid any abrasive tools or cleaners. After gently cleaning, rinse with warm water and pat dry. On a more regular basis if the gems are clean but you want to ensure their brilliance, use a soft cloth to buff.
Pearls and Semi-Precious Stones
Extra care should be taken with all varieties of semi-precious stones. These stones can be wiped with a smooth cloth gently. No abrasive solvents or chemicals of any kind should be used.
Gold Filled Jewelry
Gold filled jewelry is an excellent choice for everyday wear due to its affordability and resistance to wear. Typically, gold filled jewelry requires very little cleaning. With every day wear however, dirt and dust will accumulate on the pieces and the recommended cleaning practices are provided below. Also included, are some tips on what substances to avoid in order to maximize longevity of your pieces.
- Use mild soap and lukewarm water and gently scrub your piece with a soft bristled toothbrush or with your fingers. Make sure to really focus on the areas with the most build-up, then pat your piece dry with a soft cloth.
- Store jewelry in a sealed bag (we provide one with every purchase) or jewelry box.
- Avoid direct contact with harsh chemicals such as hand sanitizer, lotion, perfume, and sunscreen. Apply these before putting on your jewelry.
- Avoid extended contact with chlorine & salt water as both of these can harm the gold. If your jewelry comes in contact with these chemicals (such as in the pool) rinse as soon as practical.
Plated Jewelry
Plated jewelry should be stored in a cool dry place away from direct sunlight. Cleaning should be accomplished by a soft cloth. Avoid the item becoming in contact with perfumes, hairspray, and any other chemicals. Every effort should be made not to use abrasives such that plating wear occurs. To store, we recommend separate plastic containers or a soft cloth.
